Hello! We are the General Store, Selkirk CIC in the Scottish Borders

We are a Community Interest Company. This means that any profit we make goes back to support our purposes – repairing, keeping things out of landfill and supporting our town of Selkirk.

Repairmonger & Tool Library

Yes, that’s right, somewhere you can get things fixed!

Our repair team is very busy. We do our best to turn around your fixes quickly but can’t always guarantee it. To help with that we have our Courtesy Item Service. We can loan many types of items while we are fixing yours at no cost. Just ask us when you drop off your repair!

We keep our repair fees down by selling second-hand donations and a few locally hand-made goods in our retail spaces. We sell everything from garden tools, ornaments and bric a brac to small electrical items, laptops, tablets and more.

We operate a Tool Library where, for a small membership fee you can borrow all sorts of items rather than buy.

And we also run a Computer Clinic every Monday where you can get free help with your technology. We can also offer home visits for tech support in Selkirk.

The General Store

Take a step in and be instantly transported to a world of years gone by in The General Store! We carry an eclectic mix of vintage and vintage-inspired goods – from homewares, trinkets, and small furniture pieces, to vintage clothing and accessories. Anything you find in here is sure to be on the weird and wonderful side!

Our collection is meticulously hand-picked and curated from your generous donations to provide a beautifully quirky and unique selection of offerings.

We are on the Market Square, just up from the Repairmongers. Again, all profit goes back into our General Store projects in Selkirk.

ReStore

Have you visited The ReStore yet? Our newest reuse project is at Forest Mill on the industrial estate in Selkirk – TD7 5NY – beside Borders Scrapstore.

We take donations. Open Tuesday and Saturday mornings 10-1, we are just round the corner from the Recycling Centre so try us before you make that tip trip! See the list of what we can/can’t accept.

And of course we also sell those donated reuse goods. We have two large rooms – The Shop where items are priced and The Rummage Room where purchases are pay what you can. Plenty of bargains to be had whilst helping reduce waste.

As usual, all profit goes back into our General Store projects in Selkirk – just ask!

Donations

We are very grateful for your donations, they help us keep the repair service affordable for all and to fund our other projects like the computer clinic.

As much as we would love to be able to take everything there are practical and regulatory constraints on what we can handle. Please only donate items that are in good working order as our small team of fixers don’t have the capacity to fix donated goods and it is a cost to us to dispose of of broken or unsuitable items.
