How the repair service works:

WHAT DO WE REPAIR?

If you can carry the item and bring it into the shop then we will take a look at it. So … we repair laptops and tablets, clothes, small electricals, garden tools, power tools, ornaments, small furniture and more.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Demand for our services has been amazing. Please understand we are a small team of volunteers and part-time staff. We may be slow as we work our way through things. But we always aim to keep you updated and are happy for you to keep in touch. If it’s urgent please tell us when you bring it in.

BUT I REALLY NEED MY….
There are some items that we can lend you whilst yours are in the Store. Ask about the courtesy iron/toaster/microwave/spade etc,.

SAFETY PAT TESTING
Most electrical repairs are PAT (safety) tested for you before we give them back – included in the fee. We also offer stand-alone PAT testing.

WHO DOES THE FIXING?
Our fixers are a mix of professional technicians and volunteers. We match the fix to the person.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH NO FIX?
No fix – no fee but a donation for our time spent assessing is always welcome. We are not for profit so every little helps (as they say!). If we can’t fix it, we ask you to take your item home and dispose of it as responsibly as you can. One day we hope to be able to do that for you but we can’t yet.

PROBLEMS?
Like all humans, we make mistakes. We are a Community Project and believe in good service. We will do our utmost to resolve problems so please judge us on that and not just our mistake.

The General Store is a Community Interest Company and it really matters to us that the repairs are affordable. In order to do this, we sell second hand and hand-made items in our retail space and this subsidises the cost of the repair work.
